About Us

Our Story

West African beekeepers have perfected the art of honey collecting and preparation for over 3,500 years. They live one with nature, and by extension, the honeybees, who live stress-free in their natural environment. We are excited to bring you WARF (West Africa Rainforest) honey, comprised of rare and exotic flowering plants, many of which are unique to the region. This fact makes our honey remarkably smooth with complex notes and can only be described as one of the best honey the world over.

K. Deji Johnson, the founder of Johnson Tropical Products LLC, grew up in Sierra Leone, West Africa, and spent his formative years there before immigrating to New York City. His love for honey and his passion and fascination with honeybees stemmed from his childhood years in West Africa. He enjoyed the delectable artisanal honey he regularly paired with homemade bread, cereals, and numerous local beverages. While in the United States, he tried to find similar tasting honey, but to no avail, so whenever he visited West Africa, he would bring back this rainforest honey for family and friends to enjoy. Several years ago, Deji realized his dream and goal of working with local artisanal beekeepers and partnering with the best honey processors to introduce this uniquely West African flavored honey to the world’s palate.

WHO WE ARE

Mission

Our mission is to provide the very best rainforest honey to you and your family. To accomplish this, we maintain and strengthen three fundamental pillars essential to sustainable honey production — support for local communities, protection of honeybees, and environmental stewardship.

Values

  • Committed to providing superior quality honey
  • Committed to people and having a positive community impact

  • Committed to protecting the environment and biodiversity

  •  Committed to protecting the honeybees and preventing colony collapse

OUR TEAM

Our team consists of dedicated and experienced beekeepers with decades of generational experience in honey harvesting. Our beekeepers possess an intimate knowledge of the Ivoirian rainforest in West Africa. They live in harmony with the African bees, which are incredibly aggressive because of their limited interaction with people, requiring special skills, and harvesting is conducted primarily at night. A team of mostly women then assume the responsibility of post-harvest collection to maturation and bottling to bring you one of the world’s best honey.
